Description
This is our Sauvignon Blanc 2023 with a healthy dollop of Sémillon in the blend. And very good it is too, and we've only made a 'Sauvignon Sémillon' in good years like 2016 and 2020 when we've had a generous yield. We could have blended the lot but you can't call a wine 'Sauvignon Blanc' if it's made with more than 15% of other grapes. And since we're known for our Sauvignon Blanc that wouldn't do.

The back label: '2023 was our 25th harvest, all of which have been with Daniel and Nelly in the vineyard. A 60/40 blend from our Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon vines - the classic white varieties of Bordeaux. It's crisp and dry yet with enough weight to pair with good food. 12.5% vol.'

Château Bauduc Sauvignon Semillon 2019:
The varietal Sauvignon Blanc and Les Trois Hectares Semillon are made solely from free-run juice, while the pressed juice goes into this blended cuvée. You could regard it as the second wine, therefore, but to be frank the quality is barely a whisker behind. Pale in the glass, it nevertheless impresses with an expressive nose of grassy citrus fruits, in a vigorous and fresh style. The palate is supple, with notes of creamed lime, white pepper, lemon curd and crushed white peach. It’s a delightful, fruit-rich style. Bottled under Stelvin screwcap. "What I liked about this wine was its crystal clear, particularly precise, piercing nose followed by attractive smokiness and good palate weight. In fact this has so much extract (no excessive yields here) that there is just a tiniest hint of the oiliness of some white Graves, but it rises above this to be a thoroughly fine dry white bordeaux (and it’s much cheaper than most white Graves)… It would make a lovely wine at the table. Excellent value.”
