Bauduc Farmhouse 2025

Our charming farmhouse is in the heart of the vineyards at Château Bauduc. Superbly situated some 25 km (15 miles) from the fabulous city of Bordeaux and the historic wine village of Saint-Émilion, this 18th century stone house sleeps up to eight people comfortably.

The house overlooks the vineyards and backs onto the farm buildings and cellars where we make the wine, and there are plenty of walks on our 180-acre estate. The farmhouse has a lovely south facing garden, a delightful outdoor seating and dining area under a vine-covered trellis, and guests have the exclusive use of their own heated swimming pool.

We’ve furnished and fully equipped the house to make this a really comfortable base for a family holiday or for small groups who wish to relax and enjoy life. We’ve recently installed air conditioning throughout the house, and there’s fast Wi-Fi too. The house is self-catering, but few people find that a chore as our local town has become something of a foodie destination in recent years.

We’re a short drive or a 10-minute walk into Créon, which incidentally was founded by the English in 1315. It’s one of those rare rural towns in France that’s constantly bustling, and the local food shops are second to none: outstanding bakeries and patisseries, excellent greengrocers, delis, cheesemongers, fishmonger and a brilliant butcher, all within a few minutes. There’s also a terrific Wednesday morning market, just a walk away, and a very good supermarket nearby.

The local restaurants are deservedly popular, with numerous others near Saint-Émilion and in Bordeaux. We regularly take the 470 express bus from the end of Rue Bauduc into the centre of the city - it runs hourly on weekdays from 7am until 10pm, and a return ticket costs just €4.50. It’s an easy way to enjoy one of France’s finest cities without worrying about driving and parking. Another popular day out is to hire bicycles in Créon for the excellent cycle route which replaced the old railway line. It stretches 25kms in one direction and 25kms in the other, and it’s a great jogging track too.

Despite having so much close at hand, the farmhouse remains quiet and peaceful, thanks to the tree-lined drive through the vines, mature trees and the farm buildings sheltering the house and its south-facing garden.

We’re about 45 minutes from Bordeaux Airport outside rush hour. From March onwards there are Friday flights with easyJet from Gatwick, Luton, Bristol and Manchester, while British Airways also flies from Gatwick. Bordeaux is just two hours from Paris by TGV, and if you’re driving from England, the ferry to St Malo or Caen makes for a comfortable five- to six-hour drive to the château.

The farmhouse is available by the week from April through to the end of October, with Friday as our changeover day. You can arrive from 2pm, and on departure we ask that the upstairs is vacated by 10am and downstairs by 10.30am.

We’re usually on site to point you in the right direction, and Gavin can be booked for a walking tour of the vineyard. Do have a look at our pages on the local area, things to do, local restaurants, guest comments and the photo gallery. And if you’d like to keep in touch, we’d be delighted if you signed up for our monthly newsletter below.
