Decanter magazine, November 2025:

As Crémants de Loire and Bourgogne turn 50, the style’s popularity continues to bubble up. In time for the party season, we present 20 great Crémant buys, from around France

Château Bauduc, Blanc de Blancs, Crémant de Bordeaux 2021, 89 points

'This Blanc de Blancs from Bordeaux is made from Sémillon grapes with just a dash of Sauvignon Blanc. Aged for two years on lees, it opens with a sense of freshly baked sponge cake, followed by that lovely waxiness so typical for Sémillon and green pear juiciness. The palate is exquisitely light, beautifully foamy and bright. This has both ease and elegance and revels in its dryness and slenderness. I like its strait-laced yet creamy freshness. Gavin Quinney, the Englishman in Bordeaux who makes this, clearly knows what he is doing. Score 89/100, Drink 2025-2028. Alc 11%'

Krebiehl’s pick: 20 excellent Crémant buys from around France

'Anne Krebiehl MW is a widely published wine writer, awarded author, judge and educator with a particular focus, among
others, on Pinot Noir and traditional-method sparkling wines from around the world'

The Telegraph's wine correspondent, Victoria Moore, described the 2020 as 'a top-notch crémant' in her article on 23 May 2025:

"A top-notch crémant that is elegant, savoury and suave. Made from hand-picked sémillon, this has notes of lemon shortbread and is gorgeous with asparagus."

The Telegraph - Victoria Moore

We think 2021 is a slightly better year for dry white Bordeaux than 2020 and this is no exception. It is a crisp, delicious and moreish aperitif, and ideal for small gatherings or a big event like a wedding or party.

The back label: 'Lovely, sparkling Crémant made in the ‘méthode traditionnelle’, using our hand picked Sémillon grapes from a single block, with a second fermentation in bottle. This dry Blanc de Blancs was aged on its lees for over 24 months for a slightly richer, fuller taste. 11% vol'

Many UK customers don't know we make a Crémant but we actually planted the vineyard for this in 2004, some 20-odd years ago. To date, most of the 10,000 bottle production has gone to Switzerland where it's been very well received (list price chf 19.80 or £17.80). We made 50% more in 2021 so we have a touch more available. We sell it at the château to visitors for €16 a bottle, so the UK price including duty, shipping and delivery is more than fair, we think.

The vines are lovingly tended through to the hand picking in August, with the whole bunches going into the press. The juice is fermented in a chilled stainless steel vat, with a second fermentation in bottle later on by adding yeast and sugar to create the fine bubbles.

Château Bauduc Crémant de Bordeaux, Blanc de Blancs 2020
This is pure Semillon, from vines planted next to Les Trois Hectares, with two years sur lattes before disgorgement. A bright lemon-green hue in the glass, with a plentiful and foaming bead. Smoky crushed chalk on the nose, with white flowers and lemon peel. Fresh, with plenty of lemon and white peach fruits on the palate, a punchy and vigorous bead, fresh acidity and a bright twist of phenolic grip at the end. An attractive, bright, mineral character pushes through on the finish. A good Crémant here. The alcohol is 11%. 91/100
