Description
Congratulations to our good friend Andrew McInnes and his team for the upgrade in status to 'Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel' in 2025. We sell this wine because it's really good and we persuaded Andrew to let us have it for a more than reasonable price.
The 2019 La Cardonne is a new release for September 2026. A classic blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot and aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. This is an excellent, medium-to-full bodied claret that's opening up beautifully, with lovely ripeness and a full texture. 13.5% vol.
'Creamy, autumnal fruit character, with a floral edge, balanced and classical, impressive. Delivers precision and slate-streaked tannins, cocoa bean, espresso, pomegranate.' Jane Anson
Awarded 91-93 points by Chris Kissack, the Wine Doctor, and 92 points from Decanter.
The bottle ageing takes place in Andrew's 'cathedral' - a vast cellar 12 meters beneath the vines. The cellar holds hundreds of thousands of bottles at a perfect temperature underground. And that's after the time spent in barrel in equally sound conditions. There are four châteaux under one roof, the others being Châteaux Ramafort and Château Cardus - the latter really being the second wine of La Cardonne. The immaculate vineyards stretch for miles above, down towards the Gironde estuary.
