This small production, 80% Merlot and 20% Malbec blend won a coveted Coup de Coeur in the highly-respected Guide Hachette so we were pleased to nab the last few cases. Stéphane and Lucie Donze run this 11-hectare/27-acre, south and SW-facing vineyard in the hills near Bourg, above the right bank of the Gironde estuary, and everything is admirably hands-on from the manual harvest to the 14-month ageing in small French oak barrels.
This 2015 is from a terrific right bank vintage yet it's no blockbuster - just a really tasty, medium-bodied and juicy Bordeaux that slips down all too easily. We do think decanting helps to show this off at its best, but it's not essential. Drink now or over the next four years. 14% vol.
