A small production 80% Merlot and 20% Malbec blend from the excellent 2016 vintage in Bordeaux. Stéphane and Lucie Donze run this 11-hectare/27-acre, south and SW-facing vineyard in the hills near Bourg, above the right bank of the Gironde estuary. Stéphane is the President of the local Bourg Syndicate and is a modest yet highly respected grower in the area. The harvest is by hand and the wine aged for 14-months in small French oak barrels.
As with the 2015 vintage, which is still available, this is no blockbuster - just a really tasty, medium-bodied and savoury Bordeaux that slips down all too easily. We do think decanting helps to show this off at its best, but it's really not essential. Drink now or over the next five years. 14% vol.
