Description
12 x half bottle 37.5cl
This is the equivalent of 6 x 75cl full bottles ('Case of 6' above) but actually it’s a case of TWELVE 12 x 37.5cl half bottles. (We're working on changing the 'Case of 6' tab.)
Ideal lockdown wine, to be fair. This is a lovely, medium-bodied claret that's just hitting its peak, and 2012 has always been a softer, balanced vintage with just enough ripeness and a full texture. The 2012 La Cardonne is a blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc and was aged for 14 months in French oak. 13% vol. £8.50 a half bottle.
Andrew McInnes's strategy is a most unusual one for Bordeaux - to cellar his wines until they're ready to be enjoyed (Château Latour are now doing the same). And what a cellar: a vast cathedral-like space comprising hundreds of thousands of bottles at a perfect temperature underground. And that's after the time spent in barrel in equally sound conditions: there are four châteaux under one roof, the others being Châteaux Ramafort, Grivière and Cardus - the latter really being the second wine of La Cardonne. The immaculate vineyards outside are at the highest point of the Médoc.
