This is mostly Merlot, with a dash of spicy oak, and it's drinking well now. £11.95 a bottle.
2015 was a terrific vintage, we think, especially for the Merlot-driven wines of Bordeaux’s Right Bank. This is a reasonably punchy Bordeaux that can be aged a few years, or drink it quite happily now. Try also in magnum.
The back label: ‘This is a classic Bordeaux blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium bodied and partially aged in oak, it’s easy, fruity and supple enough to drink quite young. A French bistro sort of wine.' 13.5% alc.

This is in fact the same wine as the Merlot Cabernet 2015, only we decided on a change of label half way through. The background is that during one of our tastings with Rick Stein, he suggested that they put Chateau Bauduc 'Sauvignon Blanc' on his wine list, rather than 'Bordeaux Blanc'. Sales subsequently increased fourfold, so we decided to change the name on the front label too. We thought we'd follow suit with the red, and change 'Bordeaux Supérieur' to Merlot Cabernet. This hasn't worked so well, we feel, so we're going back to Bordeaux Supérieur on the red label.
We harvested the grapes in lovely condition at the start of October - see the images below when Rick Stein paid us a visit - and the result is a smooth and quaffable red that’s easy to drink. This calls out to be drunk with red meats, preferably beef or lamb, or most forms of game.
2015 was a dry year, with every month from March to October being drier than average – except for a wetter August. Crucially, it was pretty dry from 18 Sept-2 Oct for the bulk of the red harvest. 2015 is an excellent vintage, notably for the Right Bank of Bordeaux with some top-notch Merlot-based wines, but unlike other top Bordeaux vintages in 2000, 2005, 2009 and 2010, the harvest brought plenty of anxiety over when to pick. The vines and bunches ended up being extremely healthy at harvest time, and it was a very good vintage - supported by good yields on the reds, if lower on the whites.
